Today, we release a new country/regional souvenir for Republic of Cuba! If you have found a geocache in Cuba, you automatically receive the souvenir on your profile.

The Republic of Cuba sparkles at the intersection of the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. It is comprised of the island of Cuba (from which it draws its name), Isla de la Juventud, and several other exquisite archipelagos. From the urban pastels of Havana, to the dramatic mountains and rocky outcrops of the Viñales Valley and more than 300 dazzling beaches, Cuba is a dream destination for the discerning geocacher.

Our geocache of the week is located in Havana, the heart of Cuba—in fact, it’s placed right in someone’s backyard! Virtual Reward – Fusterlandia celebrates the life and work of José Rodríguez Fuster, a cherished Cuban artist and the creator of a sprawling and fantastic work of public art—Fusterlandia!

The first Virtual Cache in Cuba, this was placed in 2018 as part of the Virtual Rewards program, and it’s easy to see why this eccentric and eclectic locale was chosen.

Fusterlandia began in Fuster’s backyard in 1975, but didn’t stop there. His extraordinary creation soon spilled out of his artist’s studio into the yards of his neighbors, sparking a revitalization and reimagination of the neighborhood of Jaimanitas.

Inspired by artists such as Gaudi, this massive public art is ‘naïve,’ meaning that it uses easily recognizable childlike shapes in bright, evocative colors.

If you visit, Fusterlandia is located to the west of the city center, a short taxi or bus ride from downtown. The Virtual Cache encourages finders to locate their favorite piece in the sprawling sculpture garden. What secret gems will you discover hidden in Fuster’s backyard masterpiece?
