Since 1944, Smokey Bear has taught millions of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires. This year, Smokey is celebrating his 75th birthday. To honor him and his timeless message of wildfire prevention, Middle-Atlantic Interstate Forest Fire Protection Compact is launching a new GeoTour—The Smokey Bear 75th Anniversary GeoTour (GT92).

The tour launches July 7, 2019 and will include 75 caches across seven states. By visiting these locations, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of why it is so important to prevent wildfireswhether in your backyard or out in the forest. Some geocaches will be published in the month after the initial launch.

Two unique trackable prizes are available so make sure to print a GeoTour Passport to keep track of your progress. Once you’ve completed the tour, make a copy of your passport and mail it in to the Virginia Department of Forestry to receive your reward.

What are the prizes?

Find at least six caches in any one state and you are eligible to receive a round Smokey Bear 75th Anniversary trackable geocoin.

Find at least 25 caches in the GeoTour, you are eligible to receive a limited-edition, diamond-shaped GeoTour geocoin.

Finding all 75 of the GeoTour caches earns you a special gift from Smokey! You will also earn a unique digital completion souvenir when you find all the caches in the GeoTour.

Prizes will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Only one round trackable and one diamond-shaped geocoin will be mailed per address.
