GeoTour Spotlight: Visit Utah

GeoTour Name: Visit Utah GeoTour

Location: Utah

Number of Favorite Points: 2045

Utah is a four-season adventure destination. In spring geocachers can take advantage of pleasant temperatures and colorful, red rock landscapes surrounded by with snow-capped mountain ranges. This land is full of dramatic visual contrast and a rich prehistoric past you may discover when geocaching near ancient rock art such as Parowan Gap Petroglyphs (GC5HA8V), or Dinosaur National Monument (GC5H2HW).

In the fall, Utah’s mountain ranges are ablaze with brilliant rust colors. Discover the Pando Grove (GC6JGXJ), the world’s most massive organism, comprised of an 80,000 year-old aspen grove with approximately 47,000 trees, spanning 107 acres, and weighing 6,615 tons. The golden leaves of these quaking aspens in autumn are a rare and spectacular sight.

Goblin Valley State Park (GC5BVT8) is full of thousands of bizarre rock formations called hoodoos which resemble goblins, giving the park its name. Find the geocache and spend some extra time exploring this strange and incredible place. It’s no wonder Goblin Valley was chosen for an alien landscape in the movie, Galaxy Quest.

Hidden Gem (something only locals know about)

The Red Fleet State Park cache (GC6BN1D) offers Dinosaur Trackway, featuring 200 million-year-old dinosaur tracks in sandstone near the Red Fleet Reservoir. Stay for camping, boating, fishing, and exploring this extraordinary landscape between the Uinta Mountains and Dinosaur National Monument.

What geocachers are saying

The GeoTour has been absolutely amazing. We have gotten to see so many sights that were on our bucket list like Dinosaur, Arches, Canyonlands, Natural Bridges, and Capitol Reef. Plus some state parks that we probably would not have seen like Steinaker and Fremont Indian. Plus some beautiful towns like Vernal, Torrey, and Spring City. Spent a total of 7 days in your marvelous state and enjoyed each one! Thank you Visit Utah and Geocaching.com. — YoungHummers

Well this is quite the tour you have put together. My road trip crew are back again to visit Utah. This is my third time back to Utah! This time I plan to spend about a week here. I have never been to Utah before this year, now I have spent about 3 and a half weeks here. Your state is so beautiful, it really is impressive. I am loving the tour! Swagwags

[…]This GeoTour was (altogether) the trip of a lifetime! Plus the stories that we can tell, the jokes that we share…priceless! I am so happy I completed it. I am so happy my friends were able to do this with me. We are better people for it! Goblin Valley was a bucket list item for me. Thank you for putting that one on the geotour. Dinosaur National Monument and Red Canyon or Flaming Gorge are also places that come to mind. — anonymous GeoTour cacher
